Description
The thallus is olive green to brownish and characteristically patchy. The upper surface is reticulate and smooth, the lower finely felted. The species is used as a remedy for lung diseases. Common mainly in old, mountain forests, where it grows through mosses on tree trunks, and less frequently through mosses on rocks. It is extremely sensitive to polluted air and is declining sharply across Europe.
