Description

The tiny flowers of this field pansy enliven the edges of the fields where this species most often grows. The faintly fragrant flowers are 8 to 15 mm long. As is typical of garden pansies, the field pansy also has four petals facing up and one facing down. The petals facing upwards are pale yellow and the lower ones are dark yellow. It is decorated with short dark stripes that direct the pollinators into the interior of the flower. Petals are shorter or as long as green sepals. The leaf surfaces of the largest stem leaves are elongated, about 1.5 times as long and wide. Field pansy is a widespread plant in Slovenia, avoiding only the Julian Alps. It is a widespread field weed with a wide ecological amplitude. It is used in folk medicine.
