Description

The flowering stems are erect and unbranched, 10–20 cm high. The raceme bears 6-10 flowers, each 1 cm across. At the top of the bare stem they form a clustered inflorescence. Its long, striped ground floor leaves are hooded at the end. Mature seeds are spread by ants. It thrives on fresh soil in the shelter of deciduous forests. Except in the Alps and other high places, it is widespread throughout Slovenia. It is a poisonous plant. It is found in moist forests and forest edges.
