Description

At the ground it has a rosette of lanceolate leaves, and from the middle of the rosette are driven by tall leafless stems, on top of which is a spiked inflorescence, in which are collected about 4 mm large brownish flowers without a special odor. The plant grows in meadows and along paths. The fruits are two-seeded heads. It is a versatile medicinal plant that is still widely used in teas and other preparations. The active substances in plantain are glycosides, chlorogenic acid, ursolic acid and silicic acid. It also contains a lot of mucus. Ribwort plantain tea is used for respiratory problems and to soothe an irritating cough. Most often, tea is recommended for the treatment of bronchitis, as it also helps with coughing. It is also recommended to relieve inflammation of the throat and pharynx. Ribwort plantain or its preparations are also used for asthma, hemorrhoids, insect bites, turmeric and diarrhea, as well as for healing wounds or other skin injuries. Ribwort plantain seeds are used to regulate blood cholesterol, and to reduce fever.
