Description
It is a common species that can be seen year-round.
During the nesting season, it lives in bright, leafy and mixed forests, orchards and parks. Outside the nesting season, it also lives in parks and forests, as well as gardens, forest edges and meadows; it avoids coniferous forests. In winter, it most commonly keeps to reeds, where it feeds on various insects and their larvae, which it collects in hollow reeds.
The Eurasian blue tit is known for its fast movements and sudden, whizzing flights in which it can reach the speed of up to 29 km/h. Its singing resembles the ‘tee, tee, tee’ sound; in case of alarm, it produces a call with a grumbling churr. It is active only during the day.
The Eurasian blue tit feeds on fruit, fat, meat and kitchen waste, and in bird-feeders, especially the hanging feeders, it feeds on seeds, walnuts or unsalted peanuts. It also enjoys tallow and halved coconuts.
