Description
Adults: red body color with distinct black spots and patterns predominates. Head, tentacles and legs uniformly gleaming black. Chest shield red, with a large, black, square spot in the middle. The first pair of wings do not completely cover the rear and are bright red, with a small black dot at the top and a much larger black dot in the middle, and with a wide black border at the bottom and top. The triangle between the wings is also black. The rear is also black, with a red border. In some populations, black patterns may vary, and specimens that are entirely red are often found.
The larvae are similar to adults, except that in the early stages of development there is more redness in the body, the wings appear only at the last levitations.
