Description
Adult birds have a red-white-black head pattern and wide yellow line on their wings that contrasts the remaining black on their wings. Young specimens are much more modestly colored and do not have this characteristic head pattern. The European goldfinch or goldfinch nests in landscapes with areas overgrown with tall trees, wild herbs and solitary fruit trees. They also like villages, cemeteries, gardens and parks. In Slovenia, it is a very common species that can be seen year round.
