Description

They live in gardens and forests with high trees, but prefer the brightly colored coniferous forests adjacent to meadows and pastures, fields, and hedges. They are active during the day. Their diet consists of various insects, snails, earthworms and berries, but they prefer the common mistletoe. In Slovenia, up to 25,000 pairs of the mistle thrush nest and settle in orchards and forests. The mistle thrush is a partial migrant. Only the North European and Baltic populations migrate. As they are less social birds in comparison to the other types of thorns, it merges into smaller, dispersed groups and rarely into larger flocks. Up to 40,000 specimens winter in Slovenia (forest slopes, meadows and vineyards).
