The Eurasian collared dove is representative of pigeons and is smaller than the common wood pigeon. They can be recognized by their typical repetitive screeching call (coo-COO-coo).

Description

The Eurasian collared dove is perfectly adapted to life in the vicinity of humans. Their call (coo-COO-coo) can be heard in parks, gardens, cemeteries, and around houses. As is typical for pigeon representatives, the Eurasian collared dove builds very unpleasant and seemingly unstable nests from dry branches and roots. Often, these nests are built on electrical wiring rods, in the forked boughs of trees or on the antennas of houses. Both parents take care of their offspring and they decisively defend the nest against potential predators. They are near human beings all year round. During the winters, they have also been known to visit bird feeders as their diet consist mainly of seeds.
