Features

The common snipe has brown stripes and is very difficult to notice as it blends well into its environment. When startled, they escape using a typical zigzag flight pattern with a steep assention.

Description

During the mating season, they make characteristic flights in the evenings, where they sing their unique song as they dive. If their 7 cm long beak is included, the common snipe measures from 23 to 28 cm in length. The wingspan ranges from 39 to 45 cm in width. The common snipe is a widespread bird nesting in Central and Northern Europe. In southern Europe, it is more of a winter guest that rarely nests in Slovenia.
