Description

The red color of the beak continues into the skin fold on the forehead and the tip of the beak is yellow. The feathers are mostly gray aside from the the surface of the body, which is olive. There is a white line on the hips, which descends against the tail creating the shape of the letter V. The lower side of the tail is also white, with a black track in the middle. The tail is most often elevated, and twitches while they walk. The males and females cannot be distinguished by their feathers alone. The species feeds on a variety of aquatic plants and small aquatic animals (snails, larvae of insects, etc.), which they search for in densely covered watercourses, and, on occasion, they will even leave the water to search for food.
