Description
It is recognisable by its double white wing stripe and white edges on the tail. When mating, the males have a vivid white spot on the shoulders, a blue-grey crown and nape, and a rosy face and chest. Females and adolescent specimens are less contrasting. Their upperside is brownish and the underside brown.
The common chaffinch nests in forests of all kinds, to the treeline; including parks, gardens and groups of trees in urban centres. In Slovenia this is a common year-round species.
