Description

The upper side of the front wings is green in color with a metallic gloss with a distinctive pattern of white and yellow stripes, and the lower side of the wing is brick red. The upper side of the rear wing is brick red. The butterflies appear every year from July to early September. The jersey tiger is a butterfly of wet meadows, forest slopes of leafy and mixed forests, and also inhabits areas with marginal herbaceous forest vegetation. The jersey tiger caterpillar measures aroud 50mm, has a dark body, a broad yellowy/orange dorsal stripe, a paler broken side stripe, black head and distinctive orange brown pinaculae.
