Description
The disease can be identified by the characteristic dead parts of stems and trunks that are deepened and often release gelatinous fluid. If the infection spreads around the entire branch, the latter will fail because the bacteria destroy the transport tissue. Cancerous formations occur when bacteria invade the stem through a wound. The plant then spreads slowly over summer, fall and winter.
