The greater horseshoe bat is active at night. During the day, they sleep in hidden places and survive the winter by hibernating in caves. They feed on moths and other flying insects.

Description

They got their name from their horseshoe shaped nostrils used as part of their echolocation system. Their ears are shaped like leaves and come to a sharply pointed tip. They have thick fur. They are not blind and have good eyesight, but rely on their echolocation to navigate and to detect their insect prey.
