The Great Cormorant

Description

The great cormorant is considered a major pest in fisheries. This is a huge, goose-like bird that hunts underwater. For the great cormorants, they characteristically have poorly developed spinal glands, therefore, they do not release oil onto their feathers, so they become wet in water. The great cormorant can thus often be seen seated on the shore with their wings spread, drying their feathers after hunting underwater. They migrate over Slovenia and winter by the sea as well as on almost all major Slovene water surfaces.
