Description

It appears in almost all environments and is one of our most common tremors. It visits the flowers. It is named after the lifestyle of its larva, which develops in manure or septic tanks. The larva is whitish and has a long respiratory tube at the end of the hindquarters. The length of the larva is about 2 cm, and the respiratory tube can be extended up to 10 cm to reach the water level with the respirators. It is surrounded by 8 bristles that protect the opening of the respiratory tract. It feeds on mud particles that swirl in its mouth. Just before the pupation stage, the larvae leave their aquatic environment and finds a safe hiding place on the bank. There are several very similar species of the same genus.
