Beetle length from 14 to 20 mm. The beetle has a glistening golden body with short transverse spots on the back of the caps.

Description

It is common on flowering shrubs. It flies with the lids closed and can fold the soft leather hind wings through the side slits on the lids. The larva develops in anthills or compost heaps. It cocoons in a thin tight wrap of soil.
