Features

The wingspan is 6 to 7 cm. It belongs to the group of vulnerable species. In males, the wings are almost completely dark with a green or blue metallic sheen. Females have brownish translucent wings. The three tail processes in larvae are equally wide and with a bright ring in the middle.

Description

They are found mainly in smaller, fast-flowing waters, even in heavily shaded habitats; in some places together with a banded glitter. Widespread in Central Europe, but disappearing in many places due to water change and pollution. In some places, therefore, it is already very rare. Males repel other males of the same species in their area. The larva is active mainly at dusk and at night in dense riparian vegetation. Its development can take more than two years.
