There are nearly 160 known human fish finds in Slovenia, of which over half are recorded in the Dolenjska region. The key sites include the basin of the upper Krka stream and its tributaries: Višnjica near Stična, Dobrepolje, Črmošnjica, Sušice, Temenice and the shallow karst near Novo mesto as well as in the Kočevje region along Rinža and Rakitnica, and in Bela krajina, particularly the upper part of the Dobričica and Krupa river basins. They also live in the underground waters of the Temenica River, geographically on the habitat of the Ajdovska planota.
