Features
The wood sandpiper is active during the day. During its nesting period, it mainly feeds on food of animal origin (water beetles, crabs and stenas, and larvae of water insects, especially mosquitoes). Once the nesting period is complete, it feeds on vegitation (seeds).

Description
Their tops are gray with many white spots and dots, and below, they are light gray. Their dark beaks are flat and measure about 3 cm in length, while their slightly higher legs are yellowish green. Within a year, dark wings, white tailbones and light-dark, transversally striped tails can be seen. The wood sandpiper, a nestler of the northern parts of Europe, does not nest in our country, although we occasionally see it in May and even June, while in July they are already beginning their migrations.
The wood sandpiper is a migrating bird, which spends its winters in the Mediterranean and Africa, where it moves from mid-July to October, and returns in March, April and May. It is strongly attached to water and prefers to linger around ditches and other calm waters while they look for food.
