Description
It nests in Iceland, Scandinavia, the British Isles and in some places in Central Europe. The nesting areas are mainly large, shallow lakes surrounded by reed.
The northern pintail's wingspan measures from 23.6 cm to 28.2 cm. The male measures from 59 to 76 cm and weighs from 450 to 1360 g. It is larger than the female, which measures from 51 cm to 64 cm and weighs from 454 to 1135 g.
In Slovenia, the northern pintail is often seen when migrating and individual birds also spend their winters here.
